Recently I bought this Raw tamarind and red chilies in farmers market, they chilies are so fresh and the stems are green and the raw tamarind is very tender I barely see any seeds in it. I actually don’t know what to do with this fresh produce 😥 , so I asked my neighbor and tried her recipe… OMG 😮 it’s really yum… just loved it, a bit spicy though but still a must try recipe. It’s spicy, tangy taste goes well with ghee rice :-D.

Ingredients:-
Raw tamarind | 100 grams |
Red chilies | 250 grams |
Salt | to taste |
For tempering :- | |
Sesame seed oil | 5 tbsp |
Mustard seeds | ½ tsp |
Methi seeds | 6 |
Chana dal | 1 tsp |
Urad dal | 1 tsp |
Hing | pinch |
Method:-
First wash and dry the red chilies and raw tamarind, take the stems off from the red chilies and keep it aside. Now break the tamarind into small pieces and remove the fiber and keep it aside. Now grind the raw tamarind and red chilies separately into coarse paste, mix both the paste, add salt and again grind it into fine paste. Place a small wok and pre heat the oil, add mustard seeds, once it start to pop add methi seeds followed by urad dal and chana dal, fry till it’s golden, now add the hing. Pour the tempering in to the prepared chutney, mix well and serve it with hot rice topped it with ghee
