Onion chutney is one of recipe we often make it for breakfast, it’s really spicy and goes very well with Idly, Dosa and so on.. Recently my mom taught me her Finger millet / ragi idli recipe and she served it with Onion chutney. Omg !!! they were amazing, once I got back to my home I tried both the recipes and it turned out really yum..Thank to my mom. Here I am using regular onions, you can use shallots too.
Let’s see the procedure and ingredients for spicy onion chutney,

Ingredients:-
Onion | 2 large |
Dry red chilies | 10 (to taste) |
Tamarind | marble size |
Jaggery | marble size |
Coriander seeds | 2 tsp |
Salt | to taste |
For tempering :- | |
Sesame oil | 2 tbsp |
Curry leaves | 1 sprig |
Mustard seeds | ½ tsp |
Hing | pinch |
Procedure:-
Roughly chop the onions and set it aside, In a mixer jar add the chopped onions, dry red chilies ( adjust according to your taste), tamarind, jaggery, coriander seeds and salt as per your taste.
Now blend it well without adding water and transfer the chutney into a serving bowl.
Place a pan on medium heat for tempering and add the oil, once the oil is hot enough add mustard seeds, once it popped and the curry leaves and hing. Switch off the stove and pour it over the chutney and serve it with Idli, dosa , finger millet (ragi) idly and so on..
