Cluster beans, Goruchikkudu -గోరుచిక్కుడు, kothavarangai -கொத்தவரங்கா
Cluster beans kulambu / pulusu is one of the important gravy recipe in our family, this is a great recipe you don’t need to add toor dal in it, whereas sambar need lots of toor dal, using same method my MIL make pongal kulambu for Pongal festival. Will post that recipe also, you can replace the beans with cabbage and black chana or with broad beans and so on..

Ingredients:-
Cluster beans/గోరుచిక్కుడు/கொத்தவரங்கா | 250 grams |
Chana dal | handful |
Tamarind | lemon size |
Mustard seeds | ½ tsp |
Oil | 1 tbsp |
Salt | to taste |
For dry roast:- | |
Chana dal | 2 tbsp |
Urad dal | 2 tbsp |
Dry chilli | 7-8 |
Pepper corns | 1 tsp |
Cumin | 1 tsp |
Rice | 1 tsp |
Coriander seeds | 1 tbsp |
Coconut | ¼th cup |
Procedure:-
In a bowl add the chopped cluster beans and washed chana dal, place it in the cooker and cook for 4-5 whistles. Meanwhile soak tamarind in enough water.
Now dry roast the above ingredients and grind it into smooth paste by adding water and keep it aside.
Now mash and squeeze the tamarind, extract the pulp and reserve it.
Once the beans and dal cooked, add the tamarind extract and the masala paste. Adjust the salt and place it on the medium high flame and let it cook for a minute.
In another small pan pre heat the oil , add the mustard seeds and hing, once the mustard seeds starts to pop add it to the prepared kulambu and serve it with rice.
